Netball Association Recruiting Young Women to Play Sport

The St. Croix Netball Association is now recruiting young women ages 9 to 20 to train for national teams. Year-round training will continue at a secure, controlled environment: the Rudy Krieger Ball Park, Sion Farm. Parents are asked to encourage their teens to participate in this sport. Please call Ann at 692-5840 for more information. This can also contribute as a drug, alcohol and pregnancy preventative program.
Netball is a catching and throwing game though there are no backboards and no dribbling of the ball. A team consists of seven players of which only two can shoot within a 16’ radius. All players have specific playing areas. This sport is like basketball: there are two ten-foot poles on either side of the court. It is played in all the Caribbean Islands and is in their gym period as a subject of study in their schools, throughout the continents-England, New Zealand, Africa, USA and China, to name a few. The association hopes to take part in international championships as the first ever Virgin Islands national team.
