Francisco Budhoo, 32, died of gunshot wounds at Lorraine Village apartments early Monday.
According to a Police Department a press release issued Monday, officers responded to a report of shots fired at about 1 a.m. They found Budhoo was shot multiple times.
Detectives also said Budhoo had been released Thursday from the Golden Grove Adult Correctional Facility.
An Internet search showed that Budhoo had been arrested in 2009 on drug charges in a raid that netted eight suspects. In 2010 he was arrested on robbery charges.
Bureau of Corrections spokesman Juel Anderson said that Budhoo was not convicted on the robbery charges but had been detained since his 2010 arrest.
Major crime detectives on St. Croix continue to investigate this case.
