The sounds of jazz, reggae, country and blues will fill the air at Magens Bay July 3 at the Summer Breeze Music Fest, a fund-raising event for We From Upstreet, Inc. (WEFUS).
The fest, running from noon to 6 p.m., will raise monies for the 2012 Summer School Enrichment Program, as well as the upcoming 2012-2013 After School Tutorial Program, which WEFUS has sponsored for the past 15 years. These programs have and continue to play a major role in the transformation of youth from Upstreet and other communities.
Many of the youths are faced with complex social issues. The six-week Summer Enrichment program held in partnership with the Department of Sports, Parks and Recreation offers a cultural/musical component, as well as recreational activities. This program promotes positive values, good team spirit, and fun while learning. The After-school Tutorial Program offers academic assistance to the youth of the community.
In an effort to sustain these needed programs, WEFUS is asking residents to come out and support this worthwhile cause on July 3, on Magens Bay. Musicians are invited to come and participate. Remember to bring your lounge chairs, umbrellas and blankets.
Regular fee to enter the beach will be charged. Picnic lunch donations costs are $8, $12 and $15.00. No food, drinks or vendors are allowed at the venue.
