Man Arrested, Police Investigate Several Cases

Arvin Joseph Jr., 23, was arrested at 9:30 a.m. Thursday on St. Thomas after his 23-year-old girlfriend told police that he assaulted her on at least four occasions, a Police Department press release issued Monday indicates. He was charged with aggravated assault and battery and held without bail in accordance with the domestic violence law.

In further police news, Criminal Investigation Bureau detectives on St. Thomas are investigating several active cases.

On June Friday, a 73-year-old man told police that he was picking up gravel on the roadway near his home when he saw a man in a truck parked close to the gravel. He told police he asked the man to move his truck but the man got out of the truck and began arguing with the victim.

The two began fighting and the suspect punched the victim in his face, which caused him to fall to the ground. When the victim’s wife came to assist, she noticed a wound on his back. He was taken to the Schneider Regional Medical Center and was treated for a stab wound on his back that punctured his lung.

On Sunday, a 17-year-old youth told police he was riding in a safari bus in the Cassi Hill area when he heard several gunshots and realized that he was shot in his hand. He was taken to the hospital by a private vehicle where he was treated and released.

Both of these cases remain under active investigation.
