The St. Thomas-St. John Insular Superintendent’s Office is once again getting ready to kick off its successful Junior University program. Orientation for the students and parents is scheduled for 5:30 p.m., Thursday, June 21, at the Curriculum Center on St. Thomas. The program itself begins on Monday at the University of the Virgin Islands.
Spearheaded by the district, this five week summer program targets young males in the seventh grade who might be at a critical “transition point” between middle and high school. Classes are conducted at UVI and hosted by the organization “Brothers With a Cause,” a similar all-male program designed by UVI President David Hall in an effort to give participating students the tools and guidance needed in order to graduate.
Junior University focuses on helping its students succeed in the eighth grade and beyond, and provides counseling and mentoring services, motivational sessions, lessons in life management and workshops in skill development.
