DHS Holds Public Hearings on Vocational Rehab State Plan

The Department of Human Services Vocational Rehabilitation Services and the State Rehabilitation Council (SRC) will hold public hearings regarding the State Plan for Vocational Rehabilitation Services on Tuesday, June 19, at the Human Services STRIVE Centre on St. Thomas, and Wednesday, June 20, at the Herbert Grigg Home for the Aged on St. Croix. The hearings will begin at 5 p.m.
The public is invited to make comments to help the DHS and the council set goals and priorities for services that lead to employment for citizens with disabilities. Focus areas for discussion include
transitioning from school to work (preparing for work), policies and procedures relating to consumer choice, individualized plan for employment (IPE), and client training services, according to a press release issued Tuesday by the V.I. Department of Human Services.
The State Plan is available for review and comment at the DHS Vocational Rehabilitation office at the Knud Hansen Complex on St. Thomas and the Golden Rock office on St. Croix. Written comments may
be submitted by mail to: Disabilities and Rehabilitation Services State Plan Comments, Knud Hansen Complex Bldg A, 1303 Hospital Ground, St. Thomas, V.I. 00802; e-mail fblyden@dhs.gov.vi and fax to 774-7773. Written comments received by June 19 will be given the same consideration as those made in person at a hearing. Anyone interested in speaking at the hearing may register with agency personnel upon arrival. Comments will be accepted through June 22. Accommodations for an interpreter or
listening device must be arranged by June 15 by calling Keisha Ramtahal at 774-1662.

The SRC is composed of citizens appointed by the governor, who consult with and advise the Virgin Islands Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) program regarding the services that it provides. DHS is the government agency responsible for the VR program that is administered by the Division of Disabilities and Rehabilitation Services.
