St. Thomas police arrested Christian Rojas Saturday in connection with the May 11 robbery of Muhsen’s Supermarket, according to police. The arrest came after police encountered Rojas while St. Thomas/St. John Chief of Police Darren Foy and Deputy Chief Dwayne De Graff were canvassing several St. Thomas neighborhoods and talking to residents, according to a statement from the department.
Police were told that on May 11 at about 10:15 p.m., three masked men entered the business armed with handguns. One suspect grabbed a customer and forced him at gunpoint to give him his wallet and cell phone. Suspects also ordered the business owner to empty the cash register. The suspects then fled the store on foot. More than $1,000 dollars in cash was stolen, police said.
The case was followed up by the Criminal Investigation Bureau. The investigation identified Rojas as one of the suspects. A wanted poster was issued to law enforcement and a warrant for his arrest was requested by detectives.
Rojas, 21, was arrested on June 2 and charged with first- and second-degree robbery, grand larceny and a gun charge. He was placed on a $100,000 bail and remanded to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections. Rojas told police he is a student at the University of the Virgin Islands.
This case is being actively investigated by the Criminal Investigation Bureau. Police are seeking information on at least two more suspects connected to this case.
