Tourists Shot in Havensight Drive-By

Early Friday morning, two tourists were shot in a drive-by shooting in the Havensight area on St. Thomas, according to the V.I. Police Department.

Both victims were in stable condition at Schneider Regional Medical Center and the department is not releasing the identities of the victims at this time, Police Commissioner Henry White said in a statement. "We can confirm that both are visitors to the territory," White said.

"Given that it is an ongoing investigation, we cannot comment on the case beyond saying that we are investigating individuals who allegedly shot the victims from an SUV as the victims were leaving a nearby night club," he said.

The two individuals who were shot were traveling as part of a group of 11 visitors to the territory from the New York area, according to police.

"As a U.S. territory, the U.S. Virgin Islands is part of the American law enforcement system and has complete access to all federal resources and infrastructure. We will continue to utilize all means available to comprehensively and effectively carry out this criminal investigation," White said. "This remains an open and active investigation and we ask anyone with further information who may aid in the prosecution of this case, to please come forward and offer it to us."

Anyone who has information regarding this case can call 712-6077, 712-6037 or the anonymous tip line, Crime Stoppers USVI at 1-800-222-TIPS.
