Hovensa’s wholesale price for regular dropped 9 cents and premium a whopping 13 cents this week, for a second week of cuts that are beginning to help counter several previous weeks of increases, according to information released Monday by the refinery.
After holding steady and dropping some in May, June and the beginning of July, Hovensa’s wholesale price for regular had shot up 35 cents and premium up 39 cents per gallon since July 11, before dropping a penny for regular and 4 cents for premium last week.
Meanwhile, the V.I. Division of Licensing and Consumer Affairs just released its survey of latest survey of retail gas prices in the territory. As of Friday (a few days before Hovensa’s aforementioned price cut), the best self-service price for gasoline on St. Croix was Farm Service Station at $3.85 per gallon. There was a seven-way tie for best price on self-service premium grade, at $4.00.
The highest self-serve prices on St. Croix were $4.29 for premium and $3.99 for regular—same as a week earlier.
On St. Thomas, Giant Gas had the best self-service regular, at $4.49, and Racetrack tied with One Stop for best price on premium, at $4.68. St. Thomas’ highest prices for self-serve were $4.79 and $4.90 for regular and premium, unchanged from a week prior.
As always, St. John gets hit the hardest, with E&C gas station at $4.64 for regular and $4.94 for premium.
