Woman, Toddler Injured in First-Degree Assault

Police on St. Thomas are investigating a first-degree assault that occurred minutes before 6 p.m. Sunday near the Oswald Harris Court housing community. A woman was grazed by a bullet and a two-year-old bruised; both received medical treatment, according to the Virgin Island Police Department.

According to the police report, two men were arguing on the public street in front of the housing community when one man aimed a gun at the other, who was also holding his two year-old son. The mother of the two-year-old intervened and was shot when the gun discharged. The bullet grazed her chin and struck her shoulder. The two-year-old was bruised on his head when he was dropped during the altercation. The mother and son were treated at the Roy Lester Schneider Regional Medical Center.
