Man Shot to Death in D. Hamilton Jackson Housing Community

A man was shot and killed Monday evening in the D. Hamilton Jackson Terrace housing community, the V.I. Police Department reported.

Criminal Investigation Bureau detectives are investigating the shooting, which occurred at about 9:15 p.m. Monday. It was the 17th homicide on St. Croix this year, the 25th in the territory.

The male victim had been shot at least once in his upper body and taken by private vehicle to the Juan F. Luis Hospital, where he later died.

Police are withholding the name of the victim pending notification of next of kin. Police said the victim is 38-years-old but have not release information on where he lived.

911 Emergency Communication dispatchers received several calls of shots fired from people in the area. Officers were on the scene within minutes to conduct an investigation. Several minutes later police were notified that a gunshot victim was being treated at the hospital. In the housing community forensic technicians collected several spent shell casings. Several vehicles were also damaged by gunfire. Police are searching for suspects.

Police are urging the public to tell detectives anything they know about the murder. People can report by calling detectives at 712-6075, 712-6037 or 712-6077, or by calling the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-TIPS.

Police Commissioner Novelle E. Francis Jr. reminded the community that a $10,000 reward is offered for information leading to the arrest of any murder suspect.
