Human Services and Red Cross Perform Hurricane Drill

The Department of Human Services in collaboration with the American Red Cross of the Virgin Islands and the Northeast States and Puerto Rico will simultaneously conduct a full-scale hurricane exercise from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 11 to evaluate disaster readiness. Feeding, sheltering, communication and associated duties will be assessed.
Shelters will be opened on each island at the St. Croix Educational Complex on St. Croix, the Julius Sprauve School on St. John, and the Human Services Knud Hansen Complex on St. Thomas. Shelter team members are required to report to their designated exercise shelter including nurses, disaster mental health counselors, custodians, maintenance engineers, feeding team members, and volunteers.
Anyone interested in participating as a shelter client or those who would like to volunteer are asked to contact the American Red Cross of the Virgin Islands at 778-5104.
