A portion of the Melvin Evans Highway will be closed Sunday so the intersection for Home Depot can be paved, according to a release from Public Works Commissioner Darryl Smalls.
The paving operation will cause a detour in traffic flow in the area.
• Eastbound traffic will be detoured onto Route 75 – Estate Profit/ Clifton Hill – and from there to Route 70 – Queen Mary Highway/Centerline Road.
• Westbound traffic will be detoured at the Sunny Isle Intersection south via Castle Coakley and Route 63 – Hope Road or Hess Road – to the Melvin Evans Highway.
The disruption of traffic will be for one day, during which the contractor will pave the intersection, install loop detectors and stripe the roadway, Smalls said.
Only local traffic and emergency vehicles will be allowed along the highway during construction activities. Motorists that will be impacted by these detours are urged to obey the instructions issued by traffic control personnel along the detour routes, obey the posted speed limits, and exercise caution while traversing these routes, according to Smalls.
