Commissioner of Public Works Darryl A. Smalls alerts the motoring public that a portion of Orange Grove Road (Route 703) in the Contentment area will be closed to all thru traffic from May 18 to May 19 between the hours of 6 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The roadway will be closed to install a culvert pipe crossing as part of the Queen Mary Highway drainage improvements. The scheduled work is located approximately 50 feet east of the intersection of Queen Mary Highway (Route 70) and Orange Grove Road (Route 703).
The department advises the traveling public to avoid this area if possible while construction is in progress. Motorists traveling south and westbound will be detoured at the Golden Rock Intersection along Route 75 to the Bassin Triangle Intersection at Route 70 and Route 75 to access Route 70 Contentment Road westbound. Eastbound traffic will be detoured towards Christiansted along Contentment Road (Route 70) and to the Bassin Triangle Intersection at Route 70 and Route 75.
Local traffic will only be permitted from the intersection of Route 75 and Route 703 at the Golden Rock Intersection. Motorists may also use Rattan Road (Route 74) as an alternate route to avoid this area.
The public’s patience and cooperation is greatly appreciated.
