DHS Gives Public Information Needed for Food Stamps, Cash Assistance

The Department of Human Services, Division of Family Assistance informs the public of information needed when applying for food (SNAP) and cash (TANF) assistance. At application, the department is required by federal law to verify the information below. Bring proof of the following when applying:
Ø Gross income
Ø Alien status
Ø Utility expenses Ø Unreimbursed Medical expenses
Ø Social Security Numbers
Ø Residency verification such as lease or mortgage
Ø Identity, such as driver’s license or passport
Ø Disability documentation
Ø If previously terminated for failure to cooperate with Quality
Control, Head of Household must verify all elements of eligibility
Ø Household composition – Members living in home
Ø Student status if claiming physical or mental unfitness
Ø Legal obligation & actual amount of support
Ø Able-bodied adult work hours
At recertification Human Services is required to verify only the information below so please bring proof of the following when recertifying:
Ø Income change of more than $50 or change in source of income
Ø Actual utility/medical expenses changes of more than $25
Ø Child Support if legal obligation or amount changed Ø Newly Obtain Social Security Numbers
Ø Able-bodied adult work hours
