Sylvester Carroll Dead at 94

Sylvester Carroll of Grove Place died at his residence on Friday, April 8. He was 94 years old.
He leaves loved ones on St. Croix to mourn: Sylvania Golphin, Trudi and Charles Golphin, Clifton Maroneym Jr., Mamadou Johnson and his small circle of friends. Mr. Carroll touched many lives during his journey. He was born in Waco, Texas, to Lillian Carroll and raised by a grandmother, Bessie Sibley. After returning from military duty, he relocated to Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, and through training at Connely Trade School, he eventually became a self-employed custom upholsterer. He and his wife, Emma Lee, lived on Blockadore Street and loved to bowl. Between his wife’s responsibilities and various bowling teams, they traveled all over the U.S. After his wife retired to Abilene, Texas, Mr. Carroll resided at 702 N 12th street in Abilene for many, many years. After his mother and wife passed, his health began to fail. He came to St. Croix, in 2009.
Funeral services are pending at this time. Special thanks to the staff of Continuum Care, The VA offices and others who assisted to his needs.
All arrangements are by James Memorial Funeral Home Inc.
