Man Charged in January Theft at Big Kahuna Restaurant

Police on St. Thomas arrested Vernal Maynard, 21, of General Gade, and charged him with grand larceny and possession of stolen property. The arest took place at about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, accordng to the V.I. Police Department.

Maynard’s arrest was based on a warrant issued for an incident that happened in January.

According to the arrest warrant, Maynard snatched a cell phone and more than $300 from a waitress station located inside the Big Kahuna restaurant and fled the area on foot. Though chased by restaurant employees, he got away at the time. Further investigation by detectives led to the identification of Maynard as the suspect.

Bail was set at $50,000 and he was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advice of rights hearing.
