Arts Alive Hosts Third Fundraising Event: “Out of Time at Tillett Gardens”

Arts Alive will host its third fundraising art auction event, entitled “Out of Time,” a classical concert, and the Diner’s Delight raffle drawing. It will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 9, at Everyday Clay Studio. Over 30 Virgin Islands professional and student artists have created works of art inspired by the theme of time. The artists have interpreted time in their medium with or without the use of a working (or non-working) time movement.
All mediums and styles are being represented, such as: oil, watercolor, pencil, 3-D, mixed media, abstract, collage, fabric and more. This visual arts event is being held to benefit Tillett Foundation and these time-inspired art pieces will be for sale during a silent auction held at the studio along with a cocktail reception and concert, featuring Christina Zayas. She is an award-winning pianist and an alumni of the Arts Alive Classical Music Competition. She is currently attending Florida State University, and prior to that, she was a student at All Saints Cathedral School on St. Thomas. Christina first began studying piano at the age of six under the tutelage of Katherine Hintz at the former Hintz Academy of Music.
Arts Alive is also raffling a Diner’s Delight package with gift certificates from some of the best known restaurants on St Thomas. Among them are: Fish Tails, Romano’s, Blue Moon Café, Old Stone Farm House, W!kked, Grand Cru and Enkai Sushi. The package is valued at over $1200, and the winning ticket will be drawn on April 9. Tickets are $5 each or a book of five for $20. They are available from board members or at the Arts Alive office in Tillett Gardens.
Tillett Foundation will also be honoring Delores and John Jowers, art patrons and spirited art advocates. Mrs. Jowers was the Curator at Fort Christian Museum from 1972 to 2001. It was under her direction that the fort housed the only public art gallery on St. Thomas. By Mrs. Jowers’ invitation, the museum became the home to the School of Visual Arts and Careers. She was also one of the founding members of the St. Thomas-St. John Arts Council, which was the founding organization of the famed Caribbean Colour juried show.
Mr. Jowers, artist and executive director of the Virgin Islands Council on the Arts from 1985 to 2001, was also a former Arts Alive board member. He dedicated his life to furthering the artistic pursuits of a myriad of Virgin Island artists and arts programs. He brokered many deals with galleries and museums in New York and elsewhere, exhibiting Virgin Islands art, and he facilitated opportunities for V.I dancers to work with world class dance companies all over the world.
Tickets for the event are $50, which includes a complimentary glass of wine, hors d’oeuvres and the concert. Ticket prices have been kept affordable in the hopes that people will invest in a unique work of art to benefit the Arts Alive student outreach programs.
The “Out of Time” preview will be at Everyday Clay Studio and Gallery in Tillett Gardens from April 6-9. The preview for the silent auction will start at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 9, with a cocktail and hors d’oeuvres reception. Bidding will commence afterwards, with the concert beginning at 8:15 p.m.
