Crime Stoppers Needs Your Help to Solve Hate Crimes

On Monday, Jan. 24, the body of 16-year-old Jamal Richardson was found in a church under construction in Estate Two Brothers in Frederiksted, St. Croix.

Richardson was the apparent victim of a hate crime, murdered because of personal prejudice. Martin Luther King, Jr. once said, "Hate destroys a man’s sense of values and his objectivity. It causes him to describe the beautiful as ugly and the ugly as beautiful, and to confuse the true with the false and the false with the true."

Please help law enforcement find the killers of the many individuals throughout the territory who have lost their lives in apparent hate crimes, and let’s put an end to these types of crimes.

We are asking every parent, relative, and friend of the victims to show their love by helping to bring closure to the families—and justice to the criminals.

Law enforcement thinks that many friends of the victims know what happened in these cases, that they told their parents or others whom they look up to, and in turn were told to be quiet and not get involved.

Please become part of the solution. Like the St. Thomas mother who encouraged her son to assist the prosecution and bring justice in a recent murder case, please encourage your children and others to talk to law enforcement or to submit their information anonymously to Crime Stoppers, providing as much information as possible about the incident.

Teach your children and others to be brave, to always do the right thing, and to help make our community a safe place for all of us to live, work, and raise a family.

You can submit information about hate crimes or any other crimes at www.CrimeStoppersUSVI.org or by calling 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Your tips are completely anonymous, and the stateside operators speak several languages.

If your tip leads to an arrest or the recovery of stolen property, illegal drugs, or weapons, you will receive a cash reward to be paid according to your instructions.
