Territory to Celebrate National Agriculture Week

There will be fresh local produce to buy; beekeeping, plant-grafting and box garden demonstrations to see; and much more at market days and open houses this week as the territory celebrates National Agriculture Week.

On St. Thomas there will be a market day Tuesday at Sanderilla Thomas Bungalow in Rothschild Francis Square, and another on St. John Wednesday at the National Park Ball field in downtown Cruz Bay.

On Thursday on St. Croix, the V.I. Agriculture Department will hold an open house at Rudolph Schulterbrandt Agriculture Complex, where the annual V.I. Agrifest is held.

During the open house, the Agriculture Department and UVI Cooperative Extension Services experts will give demonstrations on land preparation, hay baling, farm safety, livestock security and more, all promoting the overall theme: "VI Agriculture: Your Food – YourFarmer."

The market days and open house will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and are free to the public. School groups are also encouraged to make arrangements to visit.

Individual V.I. farmers and the Department of Tourism partnered with the Agriculture Department and Cooperative Extension Services to put together the celebrations.
