Victories Notched for Set It Off, Coolers, Stealers in Softball

Stealers’ Raymond “Doc” Cintron trots to third for the easy out.Set It Off sank Anchor Dive Thursday night in the Bob Owens Slow Pitch Softball League, the Coolers cooled off the Cartel in game two, and the Seaborne Stealers flew over Softball Inc., at the D.C. Canegata Ball Park.

Set It Off 11, Anchor Dive 9
Game one on Thursday was a good matchup between two of the league’s middle-of-the-pack teams as Set It off just got by Anchor Dive 11-9, in a well-contested game. It was Set It Off with 11 runs on 13 hits and two errors, while Anchor Dive finished with nine runs on 10 hits and four errors.

The winning pitcher was Julio Carmona and Edwin Sankitts got the loss. Top batters for the winners were David Pierre (2 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs) and Enercido Bon (2 for 2 with a home run and two RBIs). For Anchor Dive, Danny Rodriguez was 1 for 2 with a home run and one RBI, and Carmelo Torres went 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs.

Coolers 17, Cartel 13
The Coolers got the best of the Cartel in game two by a score of 17-13. The Coolers finished with 17 runs on 15 hits and three errors while the Cartel had 13 runs on 11 hits and three errors. The winning pitcher was Dexter DeSouza and Dave McFarland got the loss.

Top batters for the Coolers were Andre Ponce (3 for 4 with two home runs and five RBIs) and Eric Perez (2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs). For the Cartel, Daren Lewis was 3 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs and James Smith was 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs.

Stealers 15, Softball Inc 12
The defending champion Seaborne Stealers continued their 2011 unbeaten streak with a 15-14 squeaker over Softball Inc. in Thursday’s nightcap. Sam Ramos pitched the victory for the Stealers, and Bill Harris got the loss for Softball Inc. The Stealers were led offensively by Raymond Cintron and Freddie Piementel who were both 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs. For the hard luck Softball Inc. squad, Juan Santana was 3 for 4 with two home runs and four RBIs, and Leandro Reyes was 2 for 3 with a home run and one RBI.
