Marijuana, Weapons Seized by Stepped-Up Patrols

Members of the Special Operations Bureau on St. Thomas confiscated drugs and weapons while conducting stepped-up police patrols during the weekend.

According to a report from the V.I. Police Department, a stun gun was found hidden in a case, followed moments later by discovery of a loaded .9-millimeter semi-automatic handgun with an obliterated serial number. The pistol was found inside an abandonded microwave.

Officers also confiscated 32 dime bags and two small vials of marijuana.

The officers were searching for suspects who fired shots on Garden Street at about 4:33 a.m. Sunday. The drugs and weapons were found in a yard near an abandoned residence on Garden Street.

Both firearms will undergo ballistics testing, tracing as well as other forensic testing.

Police are investigating the case. Anyone with any information can contact the Criminal Investigation Bureau detectives at 715-5522, 714-9834, or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-TIPS.
