Emily J. Mauricette Dies at 55

Emily J. Mauricette, 55, died peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, following a long battle with cancer, Wednesday, Feb. 2, at Knox Center for Long Term Care in Rockland, Maine.
Born May 11, 1955, in Northampton, Mass., she was the daughter of Ernest Jr. and Elizabeth Fischer Johnson. Emily was educated locally and attended Endicott Junior College. She studied for a brief time at Colby College before moving to Florida.
While in Florida, she met Charlie Mauricette. The two were married in Maine but moved to the U.S. Virgin Islands. While living aboard their boat, Emily continued her education, taking correspondence classes through New York State College. She eventually earned her associates degree in Early Childhood Education. For several years she served as director of a preschool in the Virgin Islands.
During this time Emily welcomed her first son, Eric. Always adventurous, Emily and Charlie bought a 40-foot boat and decided to live at sea. It was several years later when her second son was born, aboard the boat.
Following a devastating loss in 1995 from Hurricane Marilyn, the family relocated to Owls Head, Maine, where they have since resided.
After the untimely death of her husband, Emily was a proud single mother. She took great joy in her boys, and was an active participant in their lives. For many years she was active with their Boy Scout Troops and served as a driving force behind the support system that helped her son become an Eagle Scout along with five other boys from the same troop. Summer camping trips with her boys at Moosehead were treasured pastimes.
Her family remembered her as a gallant fighter. They said that even through her illness and failing health, she was the family social planner. She made it her duty to make sure the family got together for Christmases and birthdays.
Predeceased by her father, and a brother, Frederick Johnson, Emily is survived by her sons: Eric Mauricette and his fiancée Brittany Ross of Orono, and Ian Mauricette of Owls Head; her brothers: Peter Johnson and his wife Janet of Whitehall, Mich., and Christopher Johnson and his wife Susan of Virginia Beach, Va.; nieces and nephews: Christopher Johnson Jr. of Virginia Beach, Va., Dominique Dixon of New York City, Seneca Johnson of Greensborough, N.C. and Silica Larkin of Greenville, S.C.; her best friend, Candace Martin of Charleston, S.C.; as well as a cousin, Frederick Johnson of Germany.
Family and friends are invited to visit from 10-11 a.m., with a memorial gathering to be held at 11 a.m., on Saturday, Feb. 5, at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home,110 Limerock Street, Rockland, Maine. The Reverend Seth D. Jones will officiate.
Those who wish may make memorial donations to Boy Scout Troop No. 206, c/o Bill Benner, 91 West Meadow Road, Rockland, Maine 04841.
