Public School Students Participate in Male Empowerment Conference

Education Commissioner Dr. Laverne Terry has announced that approximately 3,900 male public school students in grades 7-12 will participate in the Male Empowerment Conference hosted by the University of the Virgin Islands and the Education Department at UVI’s St. Thomas campus on Tuesday, Feb. 8 and at St. Croix campus on Thursday, Feb. 10. Both conferences will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The conference will primarily focus on high school junior and senior males, and other young men who desire to get back on the academic track and become community leaders. It will tout the theme: “Man-Up: Realize your Potential – Tools and Resources for Males on the Journey toward a Successful Life.”
The keynote speaker for the event will be millionaire/entrepreneur Farrah Gray along with featured guests: the internationally recognized R&B singing, rapping and songwriting duo Rock City, New York Giants defensive tackle Linval Joseph and Speak the Word Ministries’ Dexter Skepple.
The commissioner urges parents to ensure the return of the parent consent forms to their schools immediately so that final preparations can be confirmed.
For more information, contact the Office of the Superintendent in the respective district.
