Man Suspected of Torching Home in Gamble Gade

St. Thomas police arrested 59-year-old Angelo Hyman at about 4:15 a.m. Tuesday and charged him with first-degree arson for allegedly setting a Gamble Gade residence on fire.

According to the police report, the suspect, later identified as Hyman, broke the western window of the residence with a beer bottle. Witnesses told police they then saw Hyman place an object through a louver, after which the ceiling of the residence caught fire.

The homeowner was at home when the house caught on fire, however, no injuries were reported. Firefighters were called to the scene and extinguished the flames.

Bail for Hyman was set at $75,000, and he was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending further court action.
