Applications are now available for a summer internship at the Friends of V.I. National Park.
“It’s a great way to get firsthand experience in their field,” Friends Program Manager Audrey Penn said.
Penn, who was a Friends intern in 2006, said it was a stepping stone in the “real world of work.”
The intern’s main job will be to assist the Friends in project management and administrative support, but Penn said the job is tailored to meet the intern’s interests. It runs for eight to 10 weeks in May through August, with the actual dates dependent on the intern’s school schedule.
This person will be assigned to several projects and tasks at the beginning of the internship to be determined in the late spring. This individual will gain experience in working with a National Park and with an environmental, nonprofit organization.
The candidates for the internship should be entering juniors/seniors or graduate students with a major in a field related to the environmental sciences or environmental education. In addition, candidates should have excellent writing and Internet research skills, be self-motivated, and strong team players.
This is an unpaid internship. However housing at Maho Bay Camps and a food and transportation stipend of $250 per week will be provided.
March 4 is the deadline to apply.
Those interested should Send a resume with cover letter and two references to Summer Internship Program, Friends of V.I. National Park, P.O. Box 811 St. John, VI 00831 or via email at apenn@friendsvinp.org.
