DOH and DHPR Partner With The Wellness Coalition for Festival

The Department of Housing, Parks and Recreation and the Department of Health will be partnering with The Wellness Coalition to host the 2nd Annual Wellness Festival on Jan. 21 and 22, at the D. C. Canegata Multi-Purpose Recreation Center. The Wellness Coalition consists of the V. I. Vegetarian Society Inc., V. I. Walking Club Association Inc. and Bamboula Haven Foundation Inc.
“The 2011 wellness awareness campaign seeks to motivate families to eat more healthy, exercise regularly and to embrace local holistic wellness resources through its theme: MakingWellness a Family Affair,’ and will provide a unique opportunity for the holistic healthcare and fitness groups to present information and issues to a diverse community in an effort to make them more health conscious and aware of illness prevention,” Commissioner St. Claire N. Williams of DHPR said.
The schedule of events commences at 6 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 21 and will include entertainment, the opening program and a panel discussion on “Healthier Lifestyles for 2011: Paving the Way for Longevity”. Then on Saturday, Jan. 22, the day will begin with a health walk at 5:30 a.m. in Christiansted from Bassin Triangle to the D. C. Canegata Ball Park. At the ball park there will be a modified Crucian breakfast, which will be followed with vendors and exhibitors including healers, nutritionist, fitness groups and cooking demonstrations.
