St. Thomas Environmental Association has scheduled a hike through the Estate Hermitage Valley from 8-11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 15, with guide Ras Lumumba. He will share his abundant knowledge of natural and cultural history, including medicinal properties of various plants. The hike passes by the Hermitage pond where hikers may see resident and migratory water birds such as blue-winged teal, white-cheeked pintail, common moorhens, Caribbean coots and more.
Wear sturdy shoes and hats and bring plenty of drinking water. Also, bring curiosity and a small notebook to record observations. Bring binoculars if you wish. Everyone will meet across from the Carambola Golf Course entrance at 8 a.m. sharp.Registration is required. This occasion is free for SEA members, $10 for non-members.
