The Forum Presents Archaeologist to Speak on Lost City of the Pyramids

Archaeologist Dr. Mark Lehner
The Forum brings Dr. Mark Lehner, the American archaeologist, to Prior-Jollek Hall at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 20, to present the story of the search for the Lost City of the Pyramids — what was found and what it means for us today.
Mark Lehner may be familiar to TV viewers as one of the main presenters in the NOVA special: “Riddles of the Sphinx.” In many ways he is reminiscent of Indiana Jones and the “Raiders of the Lost Ark.”
Today, as director of Ancient Egypt Research Associates, he leads an international team excavating and mapping the ancient city of the builders of the Great Pyramids. Over 4,000 years old, the site has revealed a large settlement, the infrastructure of the world’s first skyscrapers, one of the oldest known paved streets and more. He will also tell how this extraordinary archeological opportunity was used to launch a field school of young Egyptian archaeologists to empower them in the study of their own past.
Tickets are $20, teachers $10, students $5 with ID. They are on sale at Reichhold Center for the Arts (693-1559), Dockside Bookstore, Interiors (Fort Mylner) and Home Again (Red Hook).
The Lobster Grille at the Bolong Bay Resort will open early for those who want to enjoy dinner before Dr. Lehner’s presentation.
