Police Arrest Two on Separate Domestic Violence Charges

A man and a woman were arrested over the weekend in separate domestic violence incidents on St. Thomas.
Police on St. Thomas arrested 31-year-old Kent Bernier Jr. of Estate Lindbergh Bay at around 9 p.m. Saturday and charged him with aggravated assault and battery-domestic violence.
According to police, Bernier assaulted a female victim near Lindberg Bay.
Bail for Bernier was denied due to the domestic violence charge, and he was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending further court action.
Also on Saturday, at about 6:37 p.m., police arrested 42-year-old Aretha Defoe, originally of Dominica, and charged her with third-degree assault-domestic violence.

The police said the domestic violence incident happened at an Estate Mandahl residence. Police said while Defoe was fighting with another woman she cut her with a razor, causing lacerations to her face and thigh.
The victim was transported to the Schneider Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Bail for Defoe was also denied due to the domestic violence charge and she was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending further court action.
