Virgin Islands Energy Blast for July

Residents Can Rate LED Streetlights

The Virgin Islands Energy Office, in conjunction with the Water and Power Authority, is sponsoring an information night concerning plans to replace territory streetlights with energy efficient LEDs. The proposal calls for replacing 1,200 high pressure sodium lights with more efficient light emitting diode (LED) street lights.
Samples from five different manufacturers are currently installed in the Sunny Isle area along Bennie Benjamin Memorial Drive, on the left, heading north to the Innovative Communications Main Office Building behind the WAPA Business Office.
On July 21, representatives from WAPA and the V.I. Energy Office (VIEO) will give a presentation and answer questions about the lights at 7 p.m. at the site of the demonstration lights. Residents will also be given an opportunity to make comments on the different lights.
Residents can also send comments to R. Arthur Burton at arthur.burton@viwapa.vi or 773-2250 ext. 3106 or 774-3552 ext. 2050.
An Alternative Energy Tour – Does the Virgin Islands Need One?
Would you be interested in attending a tour that stops and views four to six alternative energy sites on your island, and then participating in a one-hour discussion on financing of alternative energy after the tour? If the answer is yes, just send an e-mail to dbuchanan@vienergy.org and type YES in the subject line and your island STX, STT, or STJ.
New Locations for St. Thomas and St. Croix Energy Offices
The Virgin Islands Energy Office on July 1 moved its St. Thomas office to Suite 231 at the Tutu Park Mall, near the Food Court.
The office has a new phone number and fax, respectively 714-8436 and 776-1914. Its mailing address is 4605 Tutu Mall, Suite 231, St. Thomas. The St. Thomas office used to be located upstairs at the Cyril E. King Airport.
VIEO on St. Croix also recently moved into the building next to its old office in Estate Mars Hill. Its phone number is now 713-8436. Its fax number remains the same, 772-0063. Its mailing address is 4101 Mars Hill, Frederiksted, 00840-3793.
Walk-in rebate applications will be accepted between the hours of 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. or 2-4 p.m., Monday through Thursday at both offices.
