Biodiversity Film Fest Screening March 25 on St. Croix The St. Croix Environmental Association and UVI present the 2010 Biodiversity Film Fest featuring, from the PBS Journey to Planet Earth series: “The State of the Planet’s Wildlife,” narrated by Matt Damon. Produced by award-winning filmmakers Marilyn and Hal Weiner, “The State of the Planet’s Wildlife” is an investigation of what scientists call “the sixth great extinction” of the world’s animals. Following the film, guest speaker Jennifer Valiulis will facilitate a group discussion. Films are screened on the fourth Thursday of the month. Coming in April: “On the Brink.”

The Caribbean Writer Announces First Annual Artist Talk March 30 UVI students, faculty, staff, and the greater St. Croix community are invited to attend the first Artist Talk on March 30 from 5-8 p.m. in the Great Hall on UVI’s St. Croix campus. The talk will feature local artists Cynthia Hatfield, Elisa McKay and Sue Snow. Also, from Egypt, Nubian artist Shayma Kamel will display her works in paint, pencil and collage. V.I. Deptartment of Agriculture, Urban Forestry Grants – Call for Applications The Virgin Islands Department of Agriculture, Urban & Community Forestry (U&CF) Assistance Program announces the availability of grants for the 2010 Challenge Cost-Share program. Organizations and agencies in the US Virgin Islands may apply for grants up to $20,000.
The deadline for proposal submissions for this grant cycle is May 3.The Department of Agriculture is looking for projects in the following areas: local government program development or improvement, demonstration or site-specific projects, and information and education projects.
The U&CF Program does not fund strictly agricultural projects. Projects must have a forestry component to be eligible for funding. Please visit the U&CF Web site, www.viucf.org, for more information about the types of projects that receive funding and an application packet, or call Marilyn Chakroff, Urban and Community Forestry Program coordinator, at 778-0997 ext. 233. Chakroff is available to help with writing proposals and with identifying the types of projects that may be funded.
