Applications Being Accepted for Congressional Internship Program

Delegate to Congress Donna M. Christensen has announced that the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Inc. is accepting applications for the CBCF Congressional Internship Program. The 2010 summer session of the program will take place from May 30 to July 30. The deadline to apply is May 15. Applications are to be filled out online at the CBCF Web site: www.cbcfinc.org/internships. Applicants are asked to submit a copy of their completed application to the delegate’s office.

Established in 1986, the CBCF internship program answered the call to help diversify our democracy by increasing the pool of talented public servants. The intensive nine-week program provides college undergraduates with a behind-the-scenes look into the democratic process. Through experiential learning in the office of a caucus member, CBCF interns prepare to become decision makers in the policy making process.
A series of educational activities, lectures, discussions and field trips help interns gain a broader understanding of the political process and African Americans’ place in history. CBCF interns will receive a $3,000 stipend and housing. To qualify, applicants must be a U.S. citizen or have a permit in the U.S.; currently or recently enrolled in college full-time when applying for program; and must demonstrate interest in public service, governance and policy-making process. Congressional interns are selected based on the following: solid scholastic achievement, strong writing skills, community service contributions, evidence of leadership skills and quality of application and, in some instances, interview performance.
For more information, interested students can also call (202) 263-2800 or send an e-mail to internships@cbcfinc.org and type “Congressional Internship Program” in the subject line.
