Romance will be in the air Sunday when dozens of married couples gather at Trunk Bay, St. John, to renew their vows at the eighth annual Celebration of Love. "It’s a meaningful way to celebrate Valentine’s Day. It expresses love and commitment," non-denominational minister Anne Marie Porter said.
She and St. John resident Kathy Dove organized the event. Porter, who owns St. John Weddings, will preside at the free ceremony, which begins at 5 p.m.
Last year, 67 couples renewed their vows on Valentine’s Day.
"The delicious thing is when you say ‘I Do’ with so many other couples," Porter said.
She called the first wedding celebration the menu and the vow renewal, the meat of the marriage.
Couples will be greeted by the flute music of Michael Banzhaf and steel pan music by Albion Sewer. Shakima Jones will sing during the ceremony.
After the ceremony, all the women will receive roses. Each couple will get a certificate.
Couples arriving from St. Thomas can receive a complimentary ride to Trunk Bay on a safari bus if they take the ferry that leaves Red Hook at 4 p.m. Porter said that taxi driver Levi Liburd will be on the Cruz Bay ferry dock with a sign that identifies him, so the couples will know which taxi to take. His taxi is red and white.
