Season Statistics for High School Baseball

As Wayne Callwood hit the ball and ran toward first, the stands erupted with noise as if Lionel Roberts Stadium were packed to capacity.

"Run, Wayne, run," the spectators cheered.

While there were no more than 10 people in the stands, their support definitely gave the Private Schools what they needed to take home second place Wednesday in the IAA Junior Varsity League. Otherwise, with the exception of the score keepers and the league’s commissioner, the stadium — which can hold at least 200 people — was completely empty.

But that didn’t stop the Private Schools from pummeling the Bertha C. Boschulte (BCB) Middle School Blazers 10-3 in the final JV game of the season. BCB jumped out to an early 3-0 lead at the end of the first inning, but the Private Schools answered back with six runs in the top of the second, and held on for the win.

After having a rough start, Private Schools’ starting pitcher Kyu Matthews found his composure and picked up the victory. The losing pitcher was Mecki Abramson.

Private Schools’ Patrick Smith Jr. had a huge game, going 2-3, including an inside-the-park home run that broke the game open in the bottom of the second. Along with Smith, Tahir Williams also went 2-3, while Dante Pole went 2-4 for the Private Schools.

For BCB, Caleem Serrant went 2-3.
