Gov. John deJongh Jr. has nominated James Benton and Roberto Cintron to the Land Use Appeals Board for the district of St. Croix and reappointed John Woods for the St. Thomas-St. John district board, according to a Government House statement released Monday.
Benton is the founder of J. Benton Construction. Over the course of his career, he has managed nearly $200 million in construction projects. He is a graduate of Wentworth Institute of Technology.
Cintron has been Assistant Commissioner of the V.I. Department of Public Works since April 2007. Before that, he was the St. Croix District Engineer for Public Works. He holds a bachelor’s in civil engineering from the University of Florida.
Both Benton and Cintron are filling vacancies on the Land Use Appeals Board.
Woods, a St. Thomas architect, is the principal of Jaredian Design Group. Among other projects, Jaredian is the architect of record for the St. Croix offices of the Government Employee Retirement System currently under construction. A graduate of Charlotte Amalie High School, Woods obtained his bachelor’s in architecture from the Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art. If confirmed, Woods will be serving his second term on the board.
Also on Monday, deJongh announced the appointment of Matthias Eckstein to the V.I. Historic Preservation Commission for the St. Thomas-St. John District. Eckstein is president of Irie Associates. He was born in West Germany and is a graduate of Ohio State University. Should he be confirmed, he will be replacing Leo Francis on the commission.
These four nominations and reappointments will now go before the Legislature for confirmation.
