National Park Service Gives Safety Recognition Awards

Virgin Islands National Park Safety Recognition Awards RecipientsVirgin Island National Park has announced the first recipients of the Safety Recognition Awards, who were chosen by peers and supervisors for acts proving their dedication to safety for others. Recipients include: Jesse Kennedy, Jean-Louis Williams, Kevin Samuel, Jeff Chabot (volunteer) Deanna Somerville, Don Near, Tarajoy Mihan, Devon Tyson and Takreem Harrison.

The safety committee members received awards for more than a year of volunteer service. VIIS 2009 Safety accomplishments included OSHA inspections and trainings, development of a Visitor Safety Plan, design and installation of new surf signs, bird deterrent measures for Trunk Bay and new entrance for Jumbie Beach. In 2010 the safety committee will continue to improve visitor safety and develop a strong employee safety culture. The V.I. park service is dedicated to making the workplace a safe and healthy place.
