Stealers, Hummers, Softball Inc. Victorious in Bob Owens League Action

The Seaborne Stealers, National Guard Hummers and Softball Inc all claimed victories in the Bob Owens Slow pitch softball league Monday night at the D.C. Canegata ball park. The Stealers got their toughest competition of the season from perennial powerhouse, Wyatt Heat, but was able to prevail 13-11 to keep their record unblemished. The Hummers finally looked the part of a defending champion by trouncing the Cartel 17-7, and Softball Inc. blasted the Dirty Dozen 24-9 in the nightcap.

Stealers 13, Wyatt Heat 11
After looking like they would run away with the league without much competition from the other teams, the Seaborne Stealers finally found themselves in a tough game against Wyatt Heat in game one on Monday. The Heat gave the league leaders all they could handle and then some, but in the end the Stealers were a little better in their 13-11 victory. It was the Stealers with 13 runs on 15 hits and two errors, while the Heat finished with 11 runs on 12 hits with three errors. Top batters for the Stealers were Enrique Soto (3 for 3 with two home runs and four RBIs) and Adam Howell (2 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs). For the Heat, Jose Berrios was 3 for 3 with two home runs and four RBIs, and Andre Ponce was 2 for 2 with two home runs and two RBIs.

Hummers 17, Cartel 7
The National Guard Hummers finally showed a glimpse of the defending champions they are after crushing the hapless Cartel, 17-7. The guardsmen have been up and down so far this season, but against a depleted Cartel squad, the champs looked like world beaters. The Hummers finished with 17 runs on 28 hits and three errors, while the Cartel had seven runs on 12 hits and two errors. Roman Cruz got the win on the hill for the Hummers, and James Smith got the loss. The winners were led offensively by Edgardo Sanes (4 for 4 with a home run and five RBIs) and Dennis Carter (3 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs). For the Cartel, Roger Moore was 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs.

Softball Inc. 24, Dirty Dozen 9
Softball Inc. roughed up the Dirty Dozen in Monday’s nightcap to the tune of 24-9. Another of the league’s elite teams who have been up and down this season, Softball Inc. put it all together in trashing the Cartel. It was Softball Inc. with 24 runs on 22 hits and two errors, while the Dirty Dozen finished with nine runs on 12 hits and four errors. Adam Harris got the win on the hill for Softball Inc., and Jason Roberts got the loss. Top batters for the winners were Tony Cruz (4 for 5 with two home runs and six RBIs) and Harris (3 for 5 with a home run and three RBIs). For the Dozen, Brandon Rausch was 3 for 3 with one RBI, and Jason Roberts was 2 for 3 with three RBIs.
