Brief: French Navy Ship to Call on Saturday

French sailors will once again arrive on St. Thomas shores this weekend. La Gracieuse, with her crew of 29 sailors, will arrive Saturday morning at Crown Bay for a three-day call.
The 54-meter, 373-ton vessel participates in drug intervention and illegal immigration operations with other navies in the Caribbean, said Odile de Lyrot, the territory’s honorary French Consul.
“They found that the welcome here was unique,” de Lyrot said. “St. Thomas is a favorite port of call.”
On Saturday the crew will take on the New Vibes soccer team at UVI at 2 pm.
On Monday, the public is invited to tour the ship. Those planning to attend the tour should bring a photo ID to Crown Bay home port. The tours, which will last 30 to 45 minutes, will be offered between 9 a.m. and noon and 2 and 5 p.m., according to de Lyrot.
