Warriors, Stealers, Softball Inc. Win in Bob Owens Opening Night

The Warriors, Seaborne Stealers and Softball Inc. were all lopsided winners on the opening night of the Bob Owens Slow Pitch Softball League Monday night at D.C. Canegata ball park. The Warriors cruised by Anchor Dive 22-11, while the Stealers and Softball Inc. disposed of their opponents rather easily by scores of 17-2 and 14-2, respectively.

Warriors 22, Anchor Dive 11
The Warriors, formally Claudio Enterprises, opened its season with a bang, hammering Anchor Dive 22-11 in game one Monday. It was the Warriors with 22 runs on 15 hits and three errors, while Anchor Dive finished with 11 runs on 11 hits, while committing two errors.
Warriors’ ace, Angel Soto, got the win on the hill, with Edwin Sankitts getting the loss for Anchor Dive. Top batters for the winners were, David Pierre, 5-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs, and Juan Santana, 3-for-5 with a home run and four RBIs.
For Anchor Dive, Elizer Ramirez was 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs and Danny Rodriguez was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Stealers 17, Hummers 2
Game two on Monday featured a matchup of the two teams that played in last season’s final in the championship: National Guard Hummers and runners-up Seaborne Stealers. This time, however, the Stealers were able get a bit of revenge by crushing the champs 17-2 in a 10-run mercy-ruled contest.
The Stealers were led by their ace, Sam Ramos, who limited the powerful guardsmen to just seven hits in picking up the victory. It was the Stealers with 17 runs on 17 hits and two errors, while the Hummers finished with two runs on seven hits and three errors. Leonard Frett got the loss on the hill for the Hummers.
Top batters for the winners were Ronald Schjang, 2-for-2 with two home runs and four RBIs, and Freddie Pimentel, 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs.
For the Hummers, Mario Christian was 2-for-2 with a home run and one RBI, and Darwin Dowling was 1-for-2 with one RBI.

Softball Inc. 14, Cartel 2
Softball Inc. proved last season that they belonged in the upper echelon of the Bob Owens Slow pitch Softball league and they continued to stake that claim with a 10-run mercy-ruled pounding of the Cartel in Monday’s night cap. It was Softball Inc. with 14 runs on 18 hits and two errors, while the Cartel scored two runs on eight hits, while committing three errors. Cody St. Pierre was the winning pitcher while Dave McFarland got the loss for the Cartel. Top hitters for the winners were Adam Harris, 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs, and St. Pierre, 2-for-2 with two RBIs. For the Cartel, Jonathan Nugent and Eddie Dunkirk were both 1-for-2 with a home run and one RBI.
