The Virgin Islands Humanities Council announces its mini-grant deadline of 5 p.m. Sept. 1, 2009. Non-profit organizations, institutions and groups are invited to apply for funding for projects that examine the cultural heritage of the Virgin Islands. Eligible applicants include civic groups, school boards, PTAs, teacher associations, service clubs, libraries, museums, historical societies, church groups, professional organizations, labor unions, public television and radio stations, divisions of the university, and agencies of state and local government. Disciplines such as history, philosophy, languages, literature, cultural anthropology, folklife studies, comparative religion, ethics, archaeology, jurisprudence, and the history and criticism of the arts will be considered.
Teacher-incentive grants up to $750 and mini-grants up to $3,500 are available. Guidelines and application forms are available online at www.vihumanities.org.
