Police on St. Thomas are investigating a homicide that occurred shortly after 8 p.m. Wednesday on Brookman Road, in the area of Dana Mart.
According to the initial report, 911 dispatchers advised police of shots fired in the area and dispatched officers to the scene. At the same time, three gunshot victims were being transported to the Roy Lester Schneider Regional Medical Center via private vehicle.
One of the victims received at least one gunshot would to the chest. He was later pronounced dead by medical personnel. The deceased was later identified as 29-year-old Jahem Mahoney, a St. Thomas native.
The two surviving victims are both 22-years-old. One was shot in his left knee and the other was shot in his right upper chest.
Witnesses told police that a dark colored vehicle traveling west passed by the area just before several shots were heard.
Police Chief Rodney R. Querrard Sr. called the incident "another senseless killing," and called on the public to help police identify and capture the killers.
"The criminals among us have no regard for life, themselves, family, no one," he said. "These criminals fire their weapons randomly, not caring who is in the way. We cannot, and should not be hostages in our homes or in our community. … We must stand together to rid our territory of these heartless criminals."
