Police Identify Weekend Accident Victim

Police have identified the victim of a weekend traffic accident on St. Thomas as 54-year-old Ann Norris.

A police officer spotted Norris’s lifeless body at the side of the Bolongo Bay Road around 6 p.m. Saturday. Police gathering evidence at the scene determined Norris, a St. Thomas resident, had been hit by a large truck and sustained major head trauma.

A St. Thomas resident appeared at the scene while police were investigating, and said he believed he hit the woman with his truck, but was "not aware of it at the time," according to a V.I. Police Department news release.

Police questioned the man, whose name has not yet been released, and confiscated his vehicle.

Police spokeswoman Melody Rames said Monday that an autopsy on Norris’s body had not yet been completed. Meanwhile, an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident is ongoing, and the results should soon be released by VIPD’s Traffic Investigation Bureau.
