Chosen Ones roll over North Stars

The Chosen Ones had seven players in double figures as they routed the youthful North Stars 106-59 in the New Breed Basketball Association’s Tuesday nighs action played at the Educational Complex gymnasium.
Every player on the winner’s bench scored in the game. The youngsters playing their initial season in the men’s summer league has been greeted rudely by the senior teams so far and remains winless on the season.
A 27-9 opening quarter by the Chosen Ones set the tone for the rest of the contest and they were never really threatened. Coach Dean Heywood subbed five players at a time, making sure that his guys remained fresh throughout.
Quinto Guirty and Zomari Swanston netted nine and eight points respectively in the second period to helped the Chosen Ones outscore Stars 21-15 and they went to intermission with a 24-point lead at 48-24.
The North Stars had their best offensive quarter in the third when, led by eight points from Craig James and seven from Dwayne Nesbitt, they were able put up 18 points on the board. That however was not enough to put a dent in the lead as Wilson Ferrance scored 10 of his game high 20 points in the third to lead the Chosen Ones to a 22-18 advantage and a 70-42 lead at the end of the third period.
The fourth quarter was show time for the Chosen Ones as the crowd was entertained with a plethora of high flying alley-oops and rim shaking dunks on their way to a 36-point final period. Ferrance was on the end of two powerful alley-oops and Guirty threw one down on a breakaway, but the one the fans appeared to get the most joy out of was actually a missed dunk. Swanston, one of the Chosen Ones bigger players, got loose on breakaway and the crowed rose in anticipation of a powerful rim shaker. Laughter however erupted when the big man raised midway down the lane, cocked the ball high above his head as he soared towards the rim and clunked the ball against the front of the basket. One fan shouted, “No lift”! Swanston got it from everyone. His coaches and teammates teased him, the fans had a good laugh and so did Swanston.
In the end the game was an entertaining 106-59 blowout and the North Stars as usual played hard to the very end.
Ferrance led the parade of Chosen Ones players in double figures with his game-high 20 points. Guirty Netted 17 and Calvin Percival dropped in 15. James Sneed and Swanston finished with 11, while Andy Chelcher and Glenroy Coggins finished with 10. For the North Stars Craig James led the way with a team high 19 points. Teammates Nesbitt and Colin Steven finished with 15 and ten points respectively
