UVI Bulletin Board – July 6

UVI Placement Tests Scheduled for Friday on St. Thomas and St. Croix Campuses

UVI’s Math and English placement testing will take place on Friday, July 10, 2009 on UVI’s St. Thomas and St. Croix campuses. Please note the times and locations below.

St. Croix Campus – Testing will take place in the Evans Center Room 401 (EVC 401) at the following times:

1-2 p.m. English 100 – Essay Writing

2:15 – 3:15 p.m. English 101 – Reading and Vocabulary

3:30 – 5 p.m. Math

St. Thomas Campus – Testing will take place in the Teacher Education Building Room 101 (TED 101), located on the upper campus at the following times:

1-2 p.m. English 100 – Essay Writing

2:15 – 3:15 p.m. English 101 – Reading and Vocabulary

3:30 – 5 p.m. Math

Placement tests are also scheduled for Aug. 10, on both campuses. Graduate applicants are not required to take the placement tests. Students who received less than 24 transfer credits will be notified if they are required to take the placement exam on their transfer evaluations. Incoming freshman (i.e, students with no prior college credit, less than 12 college credits with no college-level English or Math credits, or no Math and/or English AP scores of three (3) or higher) are required to take the placement tests. Students who have earned the following SAT or ACT scores are not required to take the Placement Test: SAT Math – 490; SAT Reading Comprehension – 500; ACT Math – 20; and ACT English – 21.

UVI Process Technology Program Summer Employment/Internship Program Begins

The University of the Virgin Islands has obtained funding from several sources that will provide employment opportunities this summer for 21 Process Technology students at the HOVENSA Refinery. Six UVI students have been offered internships by HOVENSA LLC, which is a requirement for obtaining their associates degree in Process Technology at the end of the Fall Semester 2009. The other 15 students will be employed as summer students. A news release is available on the UVI web site – www.uvi.edu.

June Issue of Dateline:UVI Available On-Line

The June Issue of the newsletter Dateline: UVI has been distributed to campus offices and is available from the Public Relations section of the UVI website – www.uvi.edu – and from this direct link. The June issue focuses on VI Small Business Week, during which local businesses were featured and awarded. The article contains a list of the 2009 award recipients of the UVI Small Business Development Center and the US Small Business Administration. Other articles feature UVI professor Dr. Nasseer Idrisi who will spend months conducting research in the Pacific Ocean and the upcoming television series ‘Home Grown’ – a partnership between UVI, WTJX and the VI Agriculture Department.

UVI to Host Business After Hours on St. Croix

The Institutional Advancement component of UVI and the St. Croix Chamber of Commerce will host “Business After Hours” on the St. Croix campus from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 9, in the courtyard of the Melvin Evans Center. The UVI community is invited to support IA, the Chamber and network with members of the business community. The event will feature light fare and a cash bar.
