District Offers Summer Credit Recovery and Elementary Schools Programs

June 19, 2009 – St. Croix District will offer a free Credit Recovery Program during summer 2009. It is offered free to public school students in grades 7 through 12 beginning Monday, June 22, and continuing through July 29. The hours of operation are 8 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., Monday through Friday (end dates and times vary at participating schools), according to a press release from St. Croix District Superintendent Gary Molloy.
Molloy said, “The Credit Recovery is designed to provide assistance to students in recovering credits/grades for courses that they were previously unsuccessful in and would otherwise repeat in order to meet promotion or graduation requirements. The St. Croix District Program will be delivered through traditional teacher to student method.”
To be eligible for participation students must have received a minimum grade of 60 in a core area and a referral by a principal or counselor. Courses being offered include: English 7-12, reading, math, algebra I, advanced algebra, geometry, science, physical science, biology, chemistry, computer science and U. S. history. “As participants of the Credit Recovery Program, students will be required to wear their regular school uniforms, and they are further expected to adhere to all rules and regulations,” he said.
Programs will be held at the following schools:
Elena Christian Junior High School/ June 22 – July 21/ 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Arthur Richards Junior High School/ June 22 – July 24/ 8 a.m. – noon

Superintendent Molloy said, “While the district elementary summer and credit recovery programs are free of charge for the course work for our public school students, insurance fees must be assessed if the child is not covered by the parents insurance. Also, adult education students will be assessed the regular $100 per course fee plus the cost of the insurance in order to be included in the credit recovery programs.”
The Abramson Bus Company will be providing transportation to the elementary summer session and the summer credit recovery program via the same routes as during the regular school year, with the exception of the John Woodson students, who will be attending classes at Central High School. Again, all students are expected to wear their full school uniforms or they will not be allowed to ride the school bus or attend classes.
