I have been feverishly trying to locate my 2006 property tax bill. When it came in, it had no due date. Later, the media published that it was a mistake and the court had not approved sending out bills. Recently, the Governor's office said to pay it anyhow (never mind the court). Of course, now I can't find the bill because we have been redecorating our home office.
Then I read in the media that I had to go back to the Tax Assessor's Office to reapply for exemptions for the 2007 property tax bill. Because the Tax Assessor's Office told me when I applied for 2006 that I would not have to do this annually. I decided to call that office about both these matters.
Much to my delight, I was told, by a very pleasant lady, that I could access my tax bill on line and there it was!! Then, I was informed that those of us who already have our exemptions in place don't have to reapply, just people who bought property and haven't done that. The office told me that was a media error.
Sometimes the government surprises me in a pleasant way. This is delightful.
