Chicken Hawk Boys Win High School Track Meet; Lady Hawks Tie for First

May 31, 2009 — The Charlotte Amalie Chicken Hawks boys track team claimed top honors in the V.I. High School Track and Field finals, while the CAHS girls had to settle for a first-place tie with the Educational Complex in the girls division. Both male and female divisions had dramatic finishes as the meet came down to the final race, the 4 by 400 relay, to crown a champion.
In the boys' race, the Central High Caribs and Hawks entered the starting blocks tied atop the team standings, but a good start for the Hawks in the 400 relays saw them gain an early advantage that they would not relinquish. The Hawks went on to win the race in 3:25.62 over the Educational Complex Baracudas' 3:25.93 to wrap up the championships. Central finished third at 3:31.36.
In the girls' race, it was the Barracudas and the Lady Hawks battling for the championship honors in the 4 by 400. The Lady Barras had a one-point lead going into the race, but the Lady Hawks won in 4:15 to move into a tie for first. The Complex finished in 4:19 in the match race.
In the boys' division, CAHS took first place with a total of 25 points, while second place went to the Caribs with 22 points and the Barracudas brought up the rear with 17 points.
In the girls' division, CAHS and the Lady Barras tied for first with 30 points apiece.
Allison Peter of the Educational Complex turned in a great individual performance by sweeping both the 100- and 200-meter races in dominating fashion.
