Dear Source:
Can anyone imagine the U.S. exempting any U.S. citizen property owner from paying property taxes? America is, almost from its inception, a melting pot of all nations. America doesn't tell an Irish immigrant that just because he got his American citizenship in 1898 he doesn't qualify for being treated equally under U.S. law. The Irish pay as much as the French, Germans, Spanish, and everyone else. (St John has a serious problem if they have a 300% tax increase, St John should investigate that one to the bones until it's settled amicably and equitably.) Even more striking is the thought that a USVI governor would be required to document 'bahn heah' when the president of the United States is not even subjected to any vetting? If this territory continues to take monies from the feds, it's time for us to buck up.
This 11th hour 'Constitution' probably will never pass, especially if the U.S. Constitutional laws were followed. The constituents, if and when they've bothered to show up for the meetings, have done nothing but bicker. We can see that Bert Bryan is trying to mold a Constitution around whatever benefits him. We could have gotten this done decades ago if all the people had a voice. This 'vote' for 'representative' does nothing for us. We vote for popular names or numbers or races or genders, not for our beliefs. It's not only in the USVI, the mainland is guilty as well.
