SEA Says Yes to Demolition Permit

May 14, 2009 — The St. Croix Environmental Association gave "almost unconditional support" for renewal of a Major Coastal Zone Management permit at decision hearing of the CZM committee in the Henry E. Rohlsen Airport Thursday.
The permit is for the demolition of several old boilers, silos, conveyer systems and mud filter pumps from the old bauxite plant in Estate Anguilla on St. Croix, on the property of St. Croix Renaissance Group.
"We are all fully supportive of this application," said Paul Chakroff, managing director of SEA. His organization had been concerned about measures to prevent runoff and to mitigate the impact of the work, but wase satisfied with the measures Renaissance Group plans to take, he said.
The permit was approved unanimously. Voting yea were committee members Robert Merwin,
Charles Peters, Neil Simon and Masserae Sprauve-Webster.
